Remembering Dr. King

Today, we remember one of the most revolutionary, courageous and prophetic figures in American history.  He was someone who was able to see, and fight for, a better future when so many were blind to how wide the breadth of human compassion truly is.

My parents reminded me this weekend of the fact that his last words before his assassination were to have "Take My Hand, Precious Lord" performed at the mass he would have attended that evening. That song, which was his favorite hymn, was performed at his funeral by the great Mahalia Jackson.

I thought I'd share a clip of her performing that powerful piece.

Hatred paralyzes life; love releases it.  Hatred confuses life; love harmonizes it. Hatred darkens life; love illuminates it.  -Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Be illuminated.
