A bulletin board, a can of grits and a fresh start

I love January. There, I said it. Most people hate it because of the post-holiday blues, extremely cold temperatures (at least here in Indiana) and unruly snow accumulation (also, Indiana).  On the flip side, I find the cold and the thought of the fresh start to a new year kind of invigorating. Plus, all the organization stuff is on sale. Bonus.

So, my first project was to create a place where I could organize a few items I always have a hard time keeping track of. Coupons, stamps, and invitations.

This project was comprised of an up-cycled bulletin board that Ben found for me, some fabric from my stock pile, the yearly calendar from my parish, push pins, ribbon, binder clips and a grits canister. Yep, grits.

To start, I measured the fabric to fit the board, then used a staple gun to secure the fabric around the edges. Because the edges turned out a little rough, I whipped out the ole glue gun and some ribbon to finish them off.

Rough edges.

Finished with ribbon.
Then it was time to add a few odds and ends like the calendar, coupons envelope and the half canister of grits I wrapped in ribbon.
Grits.
Here's the result:

Simple yet functional.

And another for good measure.
In the end, this project took only half an hour, some house hold items. and a few recyclables. Look around your house and I bet you can also find a few things to repurpose!
