A garden for the gal on the go

I have such a mix of thoughts when I look at this. My first inclination is to die laughing and then figure out how I would be able to keep up this type of garden (the number one problem being that I wouldn't be able to reach my own garden). Or what I would do if I saw a container garden pass me on the interstate? I love the kids in the car although it is pretty apparent they aren't wearing seat belts. I wouldn't put it past B to pull a stunt like this at some point later in our lives. Our kids will either be really embarrassed or just to used to it to care.

It's just awesome and I had to share.

Weekend Gardening

We had a wonderful weekend because it was the first weekend since we have moved that we were able to spend both days together at home! Nothing is painted, no photos are hung, and we still haven't put on the bed-skirt on our bed BUT we do have a back porch full of sprouting herbs, two new flower beds, and the beginnings of a giant new garden.

I am still feeling the affects of stripping a 10 X 12 ft area of sod but it will be so worth it when we have our own little sustainable and organic mini-farm! Here are a few of my favorite parts of the weekend yard work.

Outdoor Jonesin'

The recent change in weather has made me even more excited to move into our new house (ours as of 3 days ago!) because of our new deck, patio, and fenced in back yard! I've been assimilating a mental to-do list and on it are a few things.


#1: A new kitchen garden that is all our own. I've already used this handy garden planning tool from Gardener's Supply and this year we'll be growing potatoes, kholrabi, various peppers hot and mild, a few lettuce varieties, edamame (a hit from last year!), radishes, leeks, beets, garlic, onions, winter squash, pumpkins, and tomatoes. The alliums will be a first for us so I'm very excited to give them a try.

#2: Some sweet outdoor furniture! I can't wait for summer night dinner parties on the deck!!

#3: Succulents. I can't wait to try out a vertical succulent garden. They look insanely cool and make the perfect natural outdoor decor. They will also satisfy my recent love of succulents that has come out of nowhere.

#4: A cutting garden. There are few material things that bring me such simple joy as fresh flowers. I love them and if I wasn't such an allergy freak, I'd surround myself with them in every room. This year I'd like to have my own cutting garden so filling a vase is as easy as walking outside with some garden shears. Yes, please.
