Kitchen Makeover

Here they are, the pictures of our new ORANGE, yep, orange kitchen. It's still a bit of a work in process as we need to add a back splash to the stove and new faceplates but the fresh coat of paint is a huge improvement.

For this project, we used Behr's Premium Plus Ultra Interior Flat Enamel. This paint is worth the extra money. The built in primer allows you to use less on the first coat and once the second coat goes on everything looks completely filled in. This paint is mildew resistant and after two to four weeks, any excess that you might have missed can still be cleaned off of cabinets and floorboards with a mildly abrasive liquid detergent. Overall, we were very happy with this paint choice and it dried within about two hours.

Because I'm so in love with the Spanish roots that have nurtured my love of life and cooking, I'm going for an Iberian theme. It's not there yet but slowly I hope to amass a good collection of cazuela's and Andalusian-like tiles for the top shelf. Design seems to be ever evolving over at our house!

Here it is before:

So white.
Before, prepping for the paint. And a handsome guy in there.
And here's the kitchen with fresh paint and new (non brass! ) hardware:

Orange!
Much better,
The full effect.
The dining area. The partial wall, along with the
living room will be painted, eventually.
From brass to silver, new hardware.
A HUGE thank you goes out to my mother in law who pretty much painted the whole kitchen herself. That's right, she's pretty great! Thanks, Jane!

I think it goes without saying that we are not afraid of color! We especially liked how the orange warmed up the cabinets and brought out some of the darker wood grain. Overall, we are pretty pleased and can't wait to get paint on the rest of the open living room area to counter the new bold kitchen.
