Grilled Apples

As Fall creeps in, I generally find myself in a weird "in-between" kind of place. The kind of weather that doesn't require tights but you might want to take a jacket with you when you go out. Where Ben can get away with shorts and a sweater. And when both of us are dying to eek out the last few grilled meals without feeling like we're going to freeze.

At this point in time, a lot of great fruits are in season so just like the shorts/sweater combo you don't normally think of, we've been experimenting with some unusual grilled items. My favorite so far has been the apples that Ben grilled for dinner a few nights ago.

They were quite healthy for something that tasted so sweet and only require four ingredients which make them a nice afterthought addition to any meal. Especially when you already have the grill fired up. Oh, and the cinnamon makes them taste nice and fall-like for the WIN.

Here's the recipe, I hope you enjoy!

Andre the Giant, Space Pajamas & Love

For those of you that know me personally, I don't think it's any secret how head-over-heels in love I am with my other half, Ben. Its instances like the string of messages below that really make me think, "There is literally no one else in the world for me".

Here's just a snippet of the little moments that make my heart sing and conjure up a good, hearty belly-laugh. To set up the scene- we were chatting about our roof that was damaged from a barrage of storms this Spring.

Benjamin:  I just need to borrow a ladder from Andy and your eyes at some point.
me:  Alrighty!
Do I have to get on the roof.....?
Benjamin:  No you do not.
Just point to stuff from the ground and catch me if I fall from the roof.
me:  Alright!
I will be sure to catch you.
Benjamin:  hecks yeah
me:  Just like in the Princess Bride when Buttercup jumps into Fezzik’s arms, out of the castle.
You can be the princess and I'll be Andre the Giant.
Which is a lifelong dream of mine.
 Benjamin:  to marry a princess?
I can try...I think you know I am not above wearing dresses...
me:  to marry a princess is good too.
I was thinking more along the lines of being Andre the Giant
but I like where your head is at.
Benjamin:  But if you are catching me, you have to be the giant.
Which means I have to get on the roof with a dress on.
No biggie, I'm excited actually.
I just require it be a light butter yellow or perhaps royal blue with ruffles...
me:  Do you want me to make your dress or your space pajamas first?
Benjamin:  Pajamas, definitely.
End Scene.

Yeah, we're on the geeky/quirky/weird side but it works for us. And when it works, the little things become that much more precious. What simple, tiny moments make your life all the better?

A good reminder

Paul Murphy. I think he's probably one of the greatest men I've never met.

Every time things got really tough, I used to think to myself, "I can not wait for this day/week/month to be over". Then I met Ben who passed on to me a wise adage from his Pawpaw.

"Don't wish your life away"

It really helps put things in perspective seeing as this is the only life you get and wishing one second of it away is one second you'll never get back.

I really appreciate that advice from a really great man I never met.
