Aprons are great gifts for the favorite cook in your life and are pretty simple to make! Here are a couple aprons I made that will be given as gifts this season. This one is a more simple flat front opposed to the one with ruffles from a while back.
I generally use a few patterns from the fabric store, but in this case, I decided to wing it. To create these basic aprons, I layered my patterned fabric onto my solid fabric and then folded the combined fabrics in half. Kind of like how you fold a piece of paper in half to make a heart. That way, the fold is actually the middle of your apron and you have two symmetrical sides. While inside out i just ran a seam around the edges of apron leaving a couple inches open to pull it right-side-out, then used about 2 yards of the solid fabric to make a sash. Again, this is just an off the cuff method- using your pick of patterns from the fabric store gives you much more of a guideline to follow.
You only need about 1 yard of patterned fabric and 2 yards of the solid fabric so all in all this can be done inexpensively. I even had enough material leftover to make a draw string bag! I think these aprons would be super sweet paired with fun kitchen accessories like a whisk or funky spatula.
