Friendsgiving

Friendsgiving 2011
One of my favorite Thanksgiving trends over the last ten-ish years has been Friendsgiving. My first Friendsgiving was in college where close friends hosted a traditional Thanksgiving meal in their rented house. We filled every square inch of floor space around their coffee table and enjoyed great food and company before leaving for break.

The past few years, our wonderful friends have hosted a Friendsgiving that we look forward to every year. Everyone brings a side-dish or dessert (Ben made a pie, of course) and a bottle of wine. Our hosts graciously provide the turkey and we feast, chat, and soak in all the season has to offer.

For those who don't live in the same cities as their parents or other immediate family members, close friends become more like your family. You generally see them more often and include them in large life milestones. So, I think it's only appropriate that when the holidays roll around, and specifically Thanksgiving, time should be dedicated to sharing the season with your friends in a special way.

What about you? Do you participate in your own Friendsgiving? How about any other fun traditions with friends when the holidays draw near? I'd love to know!
