Cheers to a legacy of love: Thoughts on the royal wedding

Yes I'm jumping on the royal blog post bandwagon and yes, I watched the Royal wedding bright and early. Did I love the dress, the pomp and circumstance, and the pre-show? Absolutely. Call me old fashioned, but that's not what I'm the most interested in. I'm a huge believer that weddings are great, but it's all about the actual marriage, people.

I was really touched by their service and think it is a fantastic foundation for the beginning of any marriage and a great reminder for all as to what is important. I was completely enamored on every word of The Right Reverend and Right Honorable Dr. Richard Chartres' message on the importance of being "committed to generous love".  He started it off wonderfully quoting St. Catherine of Sienna who said, "If you are what God intended you to be, you will set the whole world on fire." I loved that.

And don't get me wrong, I loved my wedding. But 50 years from now when Ben and I are celebrating many years of wedded bliss, I don't want people to think, "Man, that wedding was a BLAST!", I'd rather them say something along the lines of, oh, I don't know, "A love that intense sure is spectacular, even after all these years!" or, "Those two were a huge help to me when I was going through something difficult in life" or, "I can't believe what a fantastic family they have". To me, and maybe this is where the romantic part of RH comes out a bit more, your wedding is just the start of a legacy and it's your choice how your can manifest something as organic as love into something that not only makes you and your partner better, but others in your family and community as well.

It seems to me, that the Royal Newlyweds are well on their way to a great legacy and I can't wait to watch it unfold. I'm not totally in on their scene, but at first glance they seem really down-to-earth (as a royal can be!) and- dare I say- really into each other. So, cheers to Will and Kate and to all the other great loves, young and old that have imprinted their legacy of love rather it be on the world stage, or just around the corner.
