New year, new calendar, same old tricks

One of my favorite things about starting a new year is the search for a new calendar. In my opinion it's a pretty big deal because you're going to look at it almost every day for the next 365 days. This year, I was lucky enough to have a sister that did the searching for me and gave us this gorgeous Dabney Lee calendar for Christmas!

I definitely wanted to keep it in our kitchen by where we have a "command center" of sorts. It's where we keep all of our out-going mail, coupons, and rewards cards and coincidentally we had the perfect piece of wall space for our new calendar too. It came with a pretty nifty stand but I wanted to find a frame and hang it up.

Rather than buying a brand new ready-to-use frame, I turned to a thrifty trick that I've used in the past.

This is my first try at re-using existing framed artwork back in 2006. I think I found this frame with other artwork in it for a couple cents at Goodwill then popped my own artwork in it for my friend Cameron's birthday. The lyrics are from "The Long and Winding Road"- perfect for a long-time friend and fellow Beatles fan (some could argue he is THE Beatles fan!).

For my calendar I found a frame on clearance for .79 at JoAnn Fabrics right after Christmas. I had B help me take out the backing and staples and put in our new artwork. We ended up replacing just a few of the staples to keep the calendar in. Another great thing about this frame is that we were able to make room for the 11 other months in the back!
